High in the heart of the Southern Alps, New Zealand’s most spectacular frozen rivers remain hidden from those on the ground. A scenic flight with Glacier Helicopters is the only way to reach these remote ice giants, providing access to pristine alpine environments that are completely inaccessible by land.

Choose from a range of scenic flights lasting between 20 and 40 minutes. These flights offer an unparalleled perspective of the Southern Alps, encompassing both the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and the towering peaks of Mount Cook National Park.
Fox Glacier is a geographical marvel, one of the few glaciers on Earth that exists in such close proximity to both the turquoise Tasman Sea and lush temperate rainforests. A helicopter flight allows you to see this dramatic meeting of ecosystems from a stunning bird's-eye view.

Franz Josef Glacier is renowned for its incredible "ice architecture," featuring deep blue crevasses and towering ice pinnacles. Since a major collapse of the terminal face in 2012, the glacier has become only accessible by helicopter, making a flight the essential way to witness its retreating beauty.
For those who want to do more than just look, a Franz Josef heli-hike can be arranged. This adventure combines the thrill of a helicopter landing with a guided walk on the glacier itself, allowing you to explore ice caves and unique formations with an expert guide.
We understand that every traveler’s journey is unique. Whether you are looking for a quick thrill or a deep exploration of the Southern Alps, we can tailor the experience to your needs.
Our standard flight paths are designed to showcase the best of the West Coast’s glacial scenery, including snow landings that provide the perfect opportunity for photos in the high alpine wilderness.
For a truly bespoke experience, private charter flights are available on request. This is the ultimate way to view Mount Cook (Aoraki) and the surrounding peaks in total privacy, with a flight path customised to your specific interests.

'Your accommodation choices were spot on, they were all so different, it was very difficult to pick a favourite! The itinerary and particularly the directions you gave were excellent, they took the pressure off even long driving days and we were able to find all of the hotels pretty easily. Occasionally we went ‘off piste’ but swiftly returned to the main highways. Unfortunately the weather prevented the Mount Cook flight taking off however we did manage the glacier flight which we were really pleased about - landing on and taking off from the glacier was so surreal! As a finale, Akaroa was a fantastic choice for a wind down at the end of the trip.
Thank you again for the superb itinerary and organisation'.

Wilderness Lodges are two sister properties located on The South Island. Lake Moeraki Lodge features rainforests, lakes, rivers and wild seacoast.
Situated within the South West New Zealand UNESCO World Heritage Area. Once a road building camp and motel, the site was bought by owners Anne Saunders and Dr Gerry McSweeney in 1989 with the vision of protecting the rainforest and its rare flora and fauna.
Wilderness Lodge is a 28 room eco-retreat on the shores of Lake Moeraki and the Moeraki River and is surrounded by lowland temperate rainforest.
The rooms here are spacious and comfortable but the experience is all about the outdoors. Activities include kayaking around the lake, joining guided nature trips and walking either in the forest or out to the beautiful and deserted beaches.
During the spring you will have an excellent chance of watching the rare Fiordland crested penguin which uses the nearby beaches for breeding and nesting.
The Lodge plays an active part in conservation of the local environment and generates its own power through a hydroelectric generator. Ingredients for the delicious cooked breakfasts and 4 course dinners that are included in your stay are sourced locally wherever possible and are served in the River Restaurant.
A stay here is a totally unique experience in one of the most remote areas of the country that will make a genuine difference to wildlife and habitat conservation.
