Strange as it sounds, tramping is the Kiwi word for hiking. One of our favourite areas for tramping is within Fiordland National Park, the largest national park in New Zealand. It has a landscape of sparkling lakes, towering mountains and deep fiords all swathed in dense and unbroken rainforest.
The three most famous walks, Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks, are the Department of Conservation’s premier walking tracks, known as Great Walks, whereas the less familiar Hollyford and Hump Ridge Tracks offer a quieter, different experience. All tracks are clearly marked out and well formed and hut facilities along the tracks are of a high standard.
Walks can be on a guided or self-guided basis depending on confidence and the amount of equipment you intend to carry.

Trips & Tramps are a locally owned and operated company from Lake Te Anau on the edge of Fiordland National Park. Steve & Kate Norris and their team offer small group tours and guided walks by enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides around some of the most spectacular scenery in New Zealand.
Trips & Tramps have a wide range of tours, from heli-hikes on the Kepler Track to customised walks focusing on specific interests such as bird watching or photography – the options are endless!
‘Milford Coach and Cruise’ involves an ‘unhurried’ drive through the spectacular scenery from Te Anau to Milford sound, where a leisurely nature boat cruise on the fiord awaits.
‘Milford Sound Walk and Kayak’ is a tour over two days; the first, kayaking on Milford Sound, is followed by a night on the fiord, before walking in the Hollyford Valley or the Routeburn Track after a laid-back boat cruise to start the day.
Guided walks take you along world famous tracks like Kepler and Routeburn and through alpine, lakeside and other magnificent landscapes.
Walks can be customised depending on your interests so you can organise them to visit specific places, see particular wildlife or plants, etc. and different fitness levels can be catered for.

Guided Nature Walks has a history spanning back 130 years and four local generations of the Bryant family. Peter and Karyn Hitchman are the current owners, with the ongoing support of Richard & Elaine Bryant. They have a vast knowledge of the history and ecology of the beautiful region in which they live.
