When you book a holiday to the other side of the world, you aren’t just buying a flight and a hotel room; you are investing in a dream. At New Zealand In Depth (NZID), we understand that the difference between a "good" trip and a life-changing experience lies in the details, the local secrets, and the people who stitch it all together.
Since 2003, we have been more than just travel specialists. We are curators of the "In-Depth" experience, a philosophy rooted in listening, personal connection, and a deep-seated love for Aotearoa.
Most travel agencies offer "templates." We don’t. At NZID, bespoke isn't just a buzzword; it’s our promise. We have no preset itineraries because no two travellers are the same.
Our mission is to advocate for responsible tourism. We partner with local legends, like Johan and Joyce at Wairaurahiri Jet, who actively protect their environment. We contribute to eco-projects like the Ōkārito Nursery and support the Tiaki Promise, ensuring that your visit helps conserve the very beauty you’ve come to see.
Every client receives our famous “Travel Bible,” a hand-crafted personal guide packed with our vetted recommendations for cafes, hidden lookouts, and local museums.
But who are the people writing your "Bible"? Meet the team that Tourism New Zealand has awarded Gold Specialist Status, the highest endorsement of country knowledge.

Paul’s connection to New Zealand is practically in his DNA. Growing up with a father in the airline industry (Air New Zealand included), travel was always the dinner table conversation.
After earning a degree in geology, which gave him a literal "in-depth" understanding of the New Zealand landscape, Paul spent months exploring every corner of the country.
In 2003, he founded NZID with a simple goal: to share the New Zealand that felt like "home" to him. For Paul, travel is a privilege and an opportunity to make a positive difference.
Whether he’s recommending a stargazing spot in a Dark Sky Reserve or a glacier helicopter flight, his expertise is built on over 20 years of regular visits.

Sally doesn't just know New Zealand; she lived it for 11 years. In 2003, she traded a 20-year career in Financial Services for a backpack and a world map.
That journey eventually led her to emigrate to New Zealand, where she managed remote luxury lodges in Milford Sound, Lake Moeraki, and Arthur’s Pass.
Sally eventually ran her own bespoke tour company in Christchurch, guiding small groups across the South Island.
Having joined NZID in 2014, she now uses that decade of "on-the-ground" experience to point our clients toward the secret spots you won’t find in any guidebook.

If the team were a fine-tuned engine, Kathryn would be the master technician ensuring every gear turns perfectly.
Having been part of the NZID family since 2006, Kathryn has an encyclopedic knowledge of the country’s logistical map.
Kathryn has a keen eye for graphic design and a relentless attention to detail. Kathryn is the primary architect behind your personal travel documents, ensuring they aren’t just informative, but beautiful.
Kathryn loves the creative flair of building an itinerary from scratch and seeing the joy our clients return with after their journey.

John joined New Zealand In Depth is 2014 having lived in New Zealand for 11 years during which time he ran a number of luxury lodges.
His roles included Head Guide. He owned a tour company in Christchurch (with Sally) creating bespoke touring itineraries and guiding clients around the South Island to many off the beaten track places which other companies may not know about.
His previous career was in teaching and coaching sports (including rugby) and organising a number of successful international sport tours. He returned to the UK in 2014.
At New Zealand In Depth, you work with one person from start to finish. We hone your itinerary until it is perfect, backed by our team in New Zealand who are on hand while you travel.
