Omaka Aviation Centre – A World-Class Aviation Experience

Home to Sir Peter Jackson’s renowned collection of World War I and World War II aircraft and artefacts, Omaka Aviation Centre features one of the finest aviation displays in the world. This immersive attraction offers something for everyone, not just aviation enthusiasts.

World War I: Knights of the Sky

Numerous action-packed displays bring the dramatic aerial battles of the Great War vividly to life. Highlights include the one-of-a-kind Caproni CA.22, alongside iconic aircraft such as the Etrich Taube and the Fokker E.III Eindecker.

Rare Artefacts and Historic Memorabilia

Beyond the aircraft themselves, the exhibition showcases an impressive collection of artefacts from some of the most famous figures of the era. These include personal memorabilia belonging to Manfred von Richthofen, famously known as the “Red Baron,” one of the most feared German pilots of World War I.

Dangerous Skies – World War II Exhibition

The Dangerous Skies exhibition expands the Omaka experience into World War II. Like World War I’s Knights of the Sky, it features lifelike mannequins created by Weta Workshop and original, flyable static aircraft displayed in dramatic, larger-than-life dioramas that capture pivotal moments in history.

A Collaboration Led by Sir Peter Jackson

The Omaka Heritage Trust is chaired by Sir Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Weta Workshop, who designed and created the exhibitions, also produced many of the iconic props used throughout the Lord of the Rings films, bringing their world-renowned craftsmanship and storytelling to the Omaka Aviation Centre.
