Day 1: Auckland

You will arrive in Auckland today, New Zealand's largest city with the chance to take a trip up Sky Tower.


Day 2: Auckland – Rotorua

This morning you will collect your hire car and drive to Rotorua, famous for its geo-thermal activity.

Day 3: Rotorua

Today there is time to explore the Waimangu Valley and Waiotapu.

Day 4: Rotorua – Tongariro National Park

A 3 hour drive today will take you south to Tongariro National Park and the three volcanoes of Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu.  


Day 5: Tongariro National Park

Today you will do the Tongariro Crossing, one of the world's greatest one day walks.


Day 6: Tongariro National Park – Motueka

Today you will take a flight to Nelson where you will collect a new hire car and drive to Motueka.

Day 7: Motueka

Today you can explore Golden Bay and Abel Tasman National Park.

Day 8: Motueka – Punakaiki

A 4½ hour drive will take you to Punakaiki and its famous Pancake Rocks.

Day 9: Punakaiki – Franz Josef

Today you will drive south to Glacier country.

Day 10: Franz Josef

Today you may want to take a scenic flight over the glaciers and around Mount Cook or join a heli-hike.


Day 11: Franz Josef – Wanaka

Today’s 4½ hour drive to Wanaka takes you past Lake Matheson, New Zealand's famous "mirror lake".

Day 12: Wanaka – Te Anau

A 3½ hour drive today will take you to Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park.  This evening you may like to visit the glowworm caves.


Day 13: Te Anau & Milford Sound

Today you may want to drive to Milford Sound and join a cruise that takes in the Piopiotahi Marine Reserve.


Day 14: Te Anau – Doubtful Sound

After cruising over Lake Manapouri you will board MV Sourthern Secret for a night in Doubtful Sound.

Day 15: Doubtful Sound – Stewart Island

After a leisurely morning cruising on Doubtful Sound, you will return to Manapouri by lunchtime and you will then have a 2½ hour south to Bluff where you will take the afternoon ferry across Foveaux Strait to Stewart Island.

Day 16: Stewart Island

Today you will join a Stewart Island Birding Bonanza!


Day 17: Stewart Island – The Catlins

Today you will take the early ferry back to the mainland and a 2½ hour drive will take you to The Catlins.  

Day 18: The Catlins – Otago Peninsula

Today's 2 hour drive will take you to Dunedin and then out to the Otago Peninsula.
