More about Paul

I think it was inevitable that I would work in travel and focus on New Zealand in particular. My dad worked in the airline industry for many years for the likes of BOAC, British Airways and then Air New Zealand before he set up his own long haul travel business.

I had the excitement of growing up imagining travel to distant lands and, after completing a degree in geology and working in the family travel business for a couple of years, I left the UK and spent several months exploring New Zealand.

After coming back to the UK, I worked in the tyre industry of all things for a few years and then decided that this was just too dull and that I’d been away from tourism for too long so I set up my own New Zealand travel company in 2003.

This started as Carberry Travel, imaginatively, and then became New Zealand In Depth.  Since then I have been fortunate to have been able to travel back to New Zealand many times, feeling that it is more like home every time I go.

I’ve always thought of travel as a real privilege, an opportunity to learn something new and to make a positive difference. New Zealand is astonishing in every respect – the scenery, the people, the unique and fragile flora and fauna – and I feel a strong sense of responsibility to help you to have as complete, special and memorable an experience of the country as possible, safe in the knowledge that your visit is helping to conserve and protect this special place.

I’m married to Louise and we have two children, Maddie and Ted.
