The Taranaki Region is reigned over by the mountain that the region was named for.

New Plymouth is located on the Tasman Sea coast to the north of Egmont National Park and Taranaki, the dramatic snow capped volcanic cone that dominates the landscape here.

To reach/leave Taranaki, driving along the The Forgotten World Highway makes for an exceptional journey, which winds through rugged, beautiful countryside, passing through the Moki Tunnel, also known as 'Hobbit's Hole'. This stunning road really is as off the beaten track as it sounds!
