Sailing with dolphins

Carino NZ are the only yacht licensed by Department of Conservation to swim with dolphins and the opportunity to view and swim with wild dolphins in their natural habitat is a wonderful and privileged experience.

Carino NZ are conscious of the need to protect the dolphins and respect their habitat. Interaction with the dolphins (especially swimming) is at the dolphins' invitation and skippers and crew are trained in recognising signs of avoidance or non-interest by dolphins.

The Bay of Islands is a unique location for bottlenose dolphins, as it provides them with abundant food and security for resting and breeding. Late spring to summer is the birthing season and a great experience is watching the dolphin calves learn to swim.

Other wildlife is frequently seen including the world's smallest penguin, the little blue, Australasian gannets, pied cormorants, shearwaters, stormy petrels and other ocean birds.

Sailing with Carino NZ is a peaceful and relaxed way to explore the Bay of Islands although you are welcome to lend a hand to hoist the mainsail and jib and then sit back as the sails catch the breeze and the 50ft catamaran skims across the waves.

During your day you will sail amongst the 144 islands that make up the beautiful Bay of Islands and your skipper will find a calm cove at one of several favourite islands to allow you to venture ashore to relax on the beach or enjoy nature walks on Department of Conservation Tracks.

Or why not try swimming with dolphins on the South Island?
