Cape Reinga

Cape Reinga is situated at the tip of the North Island and is known to the Maori as Te Rerenga Wairua, the leaping-place of the spirits. It is to here that the spirits of the dead travel on their journey to the homeland, Hawaiki.

A half day fly/drive tour to Cape Reinga with Salt Air is a very memorable experience.

Your adventure starts in the Bay of Islands and you will take a spectacular flight via Northland's Whangaroa and Rangaunu Harbours. Beautiful beaches such as Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay and the famous Ninety Mile Beach are spotted along the way.

The airstrip is 20 km from the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and a mini-bus will be waiting for your arrival. After a road journey of 20 minutes you will reach the Cape Reinga Lighthouse, the meeting point of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The local guide will accompany you on your walk to the lighthouse, sharing stories about the area.

On rejoining the mini-bus, a short drive will take you to Tapotupotu Bay for a light refreshment. There is time for a swim and a stroll before moving on to the Te Paki quicksand stream where you can take a sled and experience the excitement of sliding down the giant sand dunes.

The return flight to the Bay of Islands is great for admiring Northland's most spectacular coastal scenery. You will fly over the pure white sands and sparking clear waters of Parengarenga Harbour and Great Exhibition Bay which can only be seen from air or sea. The flight also crosses the Houhora Harbour, the Cavalli islands and the Kauri Cliff's golf course before returning you to the stunning Bay of
Islands.
